Physical Computing: Arduino Boards & E-textiles

Arduino:

Arduino is an open source computer hardware and software company that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers for building digital devices and interactive objects that can control objects in the physical and digital world. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form, or as do-it-yourself (DIY) kits.

Physical Computing Session: Arduino Boards

During this session, I worked with the Arduino Boards. the basic kit I was given contained the Arduino board, wires, resistors, servo motor and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
I was also shown the program BLINK, which is used to enter codes that programs the board. This enables the board to do what I want it to do. Examples of what I did is lighting up an LED light and activating a motor.

                                                                        Arduino Board:

Arduino Board - Lighting up LED light:

This is the first experience I had in using the Arduino boards, I used the program and coded it to activate the LED light.

First image bellow shows the program and the code used to light up LED.
Second image bellow shows the lit LED.

Arduino Board - motor:

Next I used the software to program the board with the coded needed to activate the motor.
First image bellow shows the codes used to program the board.
Second image bellow shows the motor attached to the board.

E-Textiles:

Electronic textiles (e-textiles) are fabrics that enable digital components such as batteries and lights (including small computers), and electronics to be embedded in them. E-textiles are fabrics that have been developed with new technologies that provide added value to the wearer.

In this session, I practiced sewing a simple circuit with an LED light onto a piece of fabric. This was then later added attached onto the Arduino board and activated. The LED light lit up with a code that had been previously programmed onto the board.

As seen in the image bellow:
